John Milton Lee (1890
- 1958) "The Dreamer" was
born September the 9th 1890 in Danville,
Indiana. In 1910 he entered the University
of Indiana and completed 3 years of
pre-medial work. Later he became a student
at Temple University in 1915. because
of death in the family he was compelled
to leave school. In 1918 he enlisted
in the 349th Field Artillery and served
overseas as a sergeant and gunner.
He helped organize and
for several years served as president
of the Fairview Golf Club, the 1st Negro
Golf Club in Pennsylvania.
Engaged in several enterprises,
for 8 years owned and operated a successful
catering business in Philadelphia. He
organized and served as Vice-President
and Secretary of the Mutual Emergency
Union a mutual aid company. He was also
a member of the Board of Managers of
the Columbia Community Branch of the
Y.M.C.A.
